Take it Back!
Community Briefing on Underage Drinking
by Susie Whitaker
February 25, 2008
Jefferson County Youth Against Drugs and Alcohol (YADA) invites you to learn more about underage drinking in Jefferson County. Take It Back! is a national, youth-directed movement to reduce youth alcohol problems. There will be more than 350 of these similar briefings being held across the United States over a two-day time period.
We hope to get community leaders, parents, school leaders and business persons from our local areas to come together to learn about and discuss this issue. Please mark your calendar and come!
When: March 6, 2008
Where: Perry Lecompton High School
Time: 7:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m.
At the community briefing, we will share information about:
• the impact of underage drinking in the county
• the effect of alcohol on the adolescent brain
• the legal implications of underage alcohol consumption
We will have representatives from law enforcement, emergency medical services and prevention services available to provide information. During this time, we will also share some things that we see as ways to address the problem and discuss options for our communities to consider.
If you would like additional information about the event prior to March 6th, please contact Jane Shirley at (785) 863-2447 or jshirley@jfcountyks.com or Chrissy Mayer at (785) 841-4138 or cmayer@dccca.org.
