Dr. Susan Alexander will retire from the Perry school district at the end of the school year. Dr. Alexander has taught English, French, Public Speaking, Acting, and college prep courses at PLHS for 21 years. Dr. Alexander has also taught English classes for Highland Community College, Washburn University, and education classes at Kansas University.
One of Dr. Alexander’s favorite memories from her time at PLHS would be the time the teachers impersonated the California Raisins and danced to "I Heard it Through the Grapevine" for what used to be an annual talent show on the last day before winter break.
Dr. Alexander stated that one of the biggest changes she has seen has been the use of technology in the classroom and high stakes testing. Dr. Alexander stated that some of the experiences I have enjoyed the most would include watching students develop skills in communication and technology, learning to use the new technologies myself, and exchanging creative teaching ideas with some of my colleagues.
Upon retirement, Dr. Alexander will spend more time running the family farm. They produce hay, row crops, and produce “all natural” beef which they sell directly to local consumers under the “Good Natured Family Farms” label available through Hen House Markets and the Mercantile in Kansas City and Lawrence. She is also interested in doing consulting work in education, working as an overseas substitute teacher, or teaching education courses part time at a university.
