37th Annual PLHS Commencement

On Saturday May 17th, PLHS recognized the seventy-one seniors who completed graduation requirements set forth by the state of Kansas and USD 343.  Madison Horsch delivered the welcome message to the crowd of nearly 1,700 family and friends.

The PLHS band, directed by Mr. Mike Maloun, played  Americans We to the capacity crowd.

 Commencement Scholarship Summary:

Darrell Andrew presented the Jerry Oldham scholarship to Mitch O’Trimble.

Anna Glynn-Hurla, representing First State Bank and Trust presented scholarships to Teri Ross and Isaac Fisher

2008-2009 Senior class president, Garrett Jones presented the PLHS student council leadership scholarships to Abby Hurd and Kristin Robbins.

PLHS Assistant Principal, Mr. Mike Copple presented the following scholarships:

Phillip Foos received the USD 343 Classified Employee’s scholarship.

The Manderson Memorial scholarship was awarded to Matt Merritt and Caleb Denton.

Crystalyn Robinson received the Thomas D. and Leone M. Hotchkiss Scholarship.

The Jennifer Then Memorial Scholarship was awarded to Jamie Fuller.

Megan Sorrick received the USD 343 Endowment Association scholarship.

The PLHS singers, under the direction of Mr. Nick Griggs, followed the scholarship presentations by performing And Wherever You Go.  Senior Class Vice president Jamie Fuller introduced the guest speaker and the 2008-2009 teacher of the year Dr. Maribel Johnson.  Dr. Johnson entertained the crowd and enlightened the seniors with her words of wisdom on the topic of life.  This message included the value of "home" and the significance of those people who will always be there for you.
