Greenhouse Complete!

The Perry-Lecompton High School greenhouse is finally complete! Hummert International erected the structure and the tireless USD #343 maintenance staff of Phil Hart, Larry Nichol, Francis Coder, Jacque Dendy and Dennis Hetrick did a masterful job of completing the mechanical and utility installation.
There was a delay in establishing gas service which caused the PLHS science department to miss the tomato and pepper planting timeline for this past spring. The circuit board for the weather station also arrived later than expected from the manufacturer. Once installed, the greenhouse climate system will be autonomous.
PLHS will be offering both Botany and Greenhouse Management courses next spring. Student enthusiasm is high and we look forward to the first of many years of plant science experiences for our students. We are also interested in some input as to what the staff, students and the community would like to see planted and available for our plant sale next spring. Please send suggestions to Mr. Haggard ASAP. We will try to accommodate as many requests as possible.
