Mr. Kip Smilie Set to Join PLHS Faculty

Perry-Lecompton High School is proud to introduce Mr. Kip Smilie as the latest English Department faculty member. Mr. Smilie will be teaching multiple sections of Sophomore English and College Preparatory Composition.
Mr. Smilie earned his Bachelor degree in Education from Pittsburg State University in May of 2001. While at P.S.U., he was a member of the Phi Beta Kappa honor society as he graduated Summa Cum Laude. Mr. Smilie has also completed his Masters in English from the University of Kansas in May of 2004, where he again graduated with honors. He is currently taking classes at the University of Kansas that will earn him a Ph. D. in Historical, Philosophical and Social Foundations of Education.
Mr. Smilie has teaching experience at both the high school and college level. He has taught Freshmen and Sophomore English at Ottawa High School. While at Ottawa he also served as a National Honor Society sponsor, Junior class sponsor and the Head Tennis coach. Mr. Smilie has also taught English Composition 101, English Composition 102, Introduction to Fiction and Humanities and Western Civilization at the University of Kansas. While at KU, Mr. Smilie served on the Freshmen-Sophomore English committee and was a member of the Student Association of Graduate Students in English. He also served as a supervisor of student teachers for the University of Kansas.
Mr. Smilie brings a variety of experiences to Perry-Lecompton High School. We are very excited to have him as a member of our faculty.
