PLHS Blood Drive
The Gift of Life!
by Ashley Q - IHT Student
This event only comes twice a year - The Perry Lecompton Blood drive! A chance for students to do a good deed to help their community. The first chance was available for students on October 3, 2008.
For students to be eligible for donating blood you must:
- Be 17 Years of age, if you are younger you must have a parental consent
- You must weigh at least 100 lbs
- Provide positive identification
- You should also eat a good meal no more than 4 hours before donating
- After donating make sure that you have at least 10 to 15 minutes of rest. After you have donated you will be given a refreshment to help your body begin to replace some of the fluid loss.
Mrs. Whitaker has been with us for 4 years and has supported 8 blood drives, before that Mrs. Pressgrove hosted blood drives each year. At Perry Lecompton we had 31 amazing students sign up to donate blood and were able to collect 17 units. Josh Payne, Junior at Perry Lecompton has donated for the first time this year. “It’s a good way to give back and it was really not that hard or scary” commented Josh. Mrs. Whitaker hoped that the next year will be more successful and more people would donate in the next upcoming years.
